Far be it from me to make a New Year’s resolution to write more because you know I won’t keep that shit but here we are it’s January 2 and far be it from me to not at least try. I’m listening to Young Thug in hopes that it will pump me up to write with some swagger but I don’t know if it’s gonna work because the drops are pretty distracting (on that note, this song by Le1f is pretty clever). Now that I’ve switched from 1017 Thug to Lobby Runners, it’s working a lot better. I think we may have a peanut butter + chocolate situation on our hands here with Migos + Young Thug. Two great tastes etc. etc. Becky’s taking a nap so I’m on the cushy headphones I bought myself for Christmas. There’s a GIF in the Tumblr margins here that’s pretty distracting.
I moved to New York in May. Another young white dude transplant! Contributing nothing to the city except more garbage and recycling that he got yelled at by a woman on the sidewalk that may or may not be his landlady this morning for not separating — and all of his money. It’s hard enough trying to take advantage of everything the city has to offer, then you think about offering the city something. You gotta, or else it ceases to be great, right? Living in New York is a lot of pressure if you can even get past the paying rent part. And it SHOULD be — especially for young white transplants like myself. It’s a selfish like having a baby is selfish — Earth will not need more babies or more humans in New York for a long time, but it’s something people are strongly compelled to do. Is it a right? Did everyone just watch too much Friends when they were growing up? I don’t know — it’s complex! Che Guevara with bling on, etc.
Pretty hard to contribute to the good of the city when you work in a windowless office of a windowless floor of a gigantic hotel owned and operated by separate gigantic corporations! Working on working on it, though. I’m good.

Modern Love Love(r): With Every Passing Paige -
The summer after my first year of social work school I worked at a camp outside of New York City. I had never worked with 5th and 6th graders before but I was eager for a job and happy to be working with kids. It was at this camp that I met a 5th grader named Paige. Paige was tall and lanky…
